Our story
A house on New Marine Drive
Hotel Sonar Bangla opened as a family guesthouse for pilgrims walking to the Jagannath Temple. Four generations later it is a beachfront hotel — larger, but run the same way.

Guests are greeted at the car, not the desk. Tea appears before the paperwork. Someone always knows when the temple opens and which gate is quietest.
The building was rebuilt in 2016 around a central courtyard, with laterite, teak and lime plaster chosen for the salt air. Rooms open to the sea on one side and the garden on the other; the corridors stay cool without air conditioning until well past noon.
We employ 140 people, most from Puri district, and buy produce from within the state wherever the kitchen can.

Cooked at home
Our chefs are from Puri and Cuttack. The mustard is ground each morning; nothing on the coastal menu travels far.
Quiet by design
Fifty-two keys on four acres, deep verandahs, thick walls and lawns that keep the road at a distance.
